Cash Mitchell is a fictional character from the Wild Cards series of books.
Cash Mitchell had developed the use of his ace to lift weights well before coming into the employ of Warren Skalko, an underworld figure operating out of Las Vegas. From time to time, he would do the occasional bit of heavy lifting for Skalko, assisting with Skalko's smuggling efforts, and this led him to be recommended for a clandestine lifting job for another shady figure, Mr. Tominbang. It eventuated that Tominbang was himself a deuce, and had procured a mothballed Quicksilver orbital craft, with a view to using it to reach the surface of the Moon. Cash was needed to lighten the load.
Things did not go entirely according to plan, and after Cash found himself asked to spy on Tominbang's efforts, Skalko moved to disrupt the launch, and extensively damaged the Quicksilver in the process. The original pilot, Al Dearborn, was hurt in the incident, but also revealed that a second Quicksilver was being readied and the mission was to proceed. Cash took up his seat on the space flight and became one of three to secretly land on the Moon in 1968.
Wild Card TraitsEdit
Cash can counter the pull of gravity causing objects as large as a truck to become lighter, or even rise off the ground. He has two very constraining factors that limit the application of this power however. The first is that the amount of weight he can effect is only proportional to the force of his grip. The second is that he needs an emotional charge to achieve any weight lifting at all and his emotional state itself can limit how much weight he can counteract. Cash usually finds that annoyance or anger are his most reliable emotional triggers.
Cash is a slightly overweight man with glasses.
Cash is somewhat cowardly, but he has occasionally spurred himself to achieve great deeds when sufficiently motivated.
