Candace "The Darkness" Sessou is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books.
History
Candace was from Kinkala, near the former Brazzaville part of the Congo before Dr. Kitengi Nshombo and the Radical conquered it. She was taken and injected with a cultivated strain of the wild card virus, and was one of the lucky few to have drawn an ace. Her new power made her a valuable asset, and Candace became a child soldier for the People's Paradise of Africa.
After numerous military engagements, the Darkness had become a combat veteran aged only thirteen. She was acting in the capacity of bodyguard for President-for-Life Nshombo when the Radical attacked him on his private yacht, and rather than try to fight the powerful ace, she cloaked herself and fled.
Wild Card Traits
The Darkness can cloak a wide area in an inky darkness that has an appearance to the outside observer of inky dark flame. People caught within its reach find themselves completely blinded by its effects. The Darkness herself can see through it, and by touching the eyes of others can confer this trait to them as well for a short time.
Appearance
Candace is a skinny girl, with close-cropped hair. She wears big round rimmed glasses and matching plastic hoop earrings.
