The Werewolves are a fictional organization from the Wild Cards series of books. They are an all-joker street gang, and part of the Shadow Fist Society. Aping their leader, members all wear the same face mask, which changes on an irregular basis. The mask, usually of some famous or infamous person, is their gang sign and some Werewolves fly into a killing rage if ordered to remove it. Examples of masks used by the Werewolves include Leo Barnett, Gregg Hartmann, Mae West, Michael Jackson, Liza Minnelli, and Richard Nixon.

Background History[]

The Werewolves’ Lair is an old luxury hotel in the Bowery that had gone downhill for many years, first becoming tenement apartments, then a flophouse, then being abandoned for over a decade before the Werewolves move in and fix it up. Minimally. The door of Nance’s Sanctorum has a crude pentacle surrounded by the legend 666: Lair of the Beast sloppily painted on it in dripping red paint. Inside, it is cluttered with occult books and magic gimcracks. Hanging on the wall behind his desk is a portrait of Nance’s patron saint, Aleister Crowley.
