Fleur van Renssaeler is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books. She is a member of the van Renssaeler family, daughter to Bythe and Henry van Renssaeler. Her siblings are Henry van Renssaeler, Jr. and Brandon van Renssaeler. Her niece is Clara van Renssaeler, the creator of the Black Trump virus.
Fleur never remembered her mother. Her knowledge of the famous ace was what her father had told her: that she had been a whore and a cheat. Thus she grew up with a feeling of bitterness towards her mother, as well as a hatred towards Dr. Tachyon and his people's alien wild card virus.
Fleur met Tachyon in person at the 1988 Democratic Convention where she was working as a campaign strategist for Leo Barnett. Initially she made no attempt to hide her hatred of him, but she surprised him later by luring him into a sexual encounter. This was all a ruse however, as she had been requested to turn her charms on him by Barnett in an effort to sabotage Tachyon's role in the campaign. Tachyon soon learned the truth and the tryst ended as quickly as it had begun.
Fleur is an attractive woman with brown eyes. She has been observed to have a remarkable resemblance to her mother, yet her personality has clearly been shaped more by her father.
Fleur is a calculating and severe woman, with a strong dislike of jokers and the wild card in general. She holds a deep-seated love for Leo Barnett and will do anything he asks of her, even to the point where she seduced a man she hated.
