Lucas Tate is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books.

Lucas Tate was a young reporter working for the Jokertown Cry when he went undercover to work on an exposé on the Demon Princes street gang. While he was running with the gang, he met and fell in love with Ramona Holt, a joker girl. Their courtship was shattered when Ramona was killed in a hit-and-run car accident, sending Lucas into the depths of despair.

Years later Tate had become successful as an editor for the Cry, and was part of a group of old friends, including NYPD detective Leo Storgman, who would gather for a monthly round of poker. This friendship was eventually put to the test when Storgman deduced Tate's connection to a homicide investigation from Tate's time with the Demon Princes, and confronted him over it.
