Usher is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books.
History[]
Usher was a mercenary well before entering into employment with the Allumbrados. His effectiveness as a soldier eventually got him assigned to John Nighthawk's team sent to Italy to collect the Mandylion, a shroud that had reportedly been in contact with Jesus of Nazareth. The mission, while ultimately successful, went sour when Curtis Grubbs was shot and killed, leaving Usher to fill the role of heavy lifter.
With that mission complete, he was assigned to bodyguard duty for Cardinal Contarini during an escalating conflict when Contarini had the Allumbrados focused on capturing and killing John Fortune. He followed Nighthawk's lead through the culmination of events however, and was consequently allowed to walk free after abandoning the objective to kill Fortune.
Appearance[]
Usher is a big man at six foot four, with brown skin light enough that he can pass for white.
Personality[]
Usher is intelligent and competent in his role as a mercenary.
