The Witness is a minor character in the Wild Cards series of books. He is one of two "Witnesses to the Revelation," the other being his brother who is also referred to as the Witness.

History[]

The Witness was drawn into the inner circle of the Allumbrados, serving as a personal enforcer to Cardinal Contarini. Learning of Fortunato in the care of the Jokertown Clinic, Contarini dispatched the Witness to murder him. Instead of a beaten patient however, he found that Fortunato had regained his full strength. The Witness opted to strike at Fortunato regardless, and attacked in an airborne confrontation. He quickly found that his power was no match for the Zen training of the other ace when Fortunato simply allowed the Witness's power to pass harmlessly through himself, and then plunged the Witness fatally into the street below.

Wild Card Traits[]

The Witness has a pronounced telekinetic ability and is able to unleash it in powerful telekinetic blasts, or use it to levitate himself in the air. He has been seen waving his hands in arcane gestures in order to invoke aspects of his power.

Appearance[]

The Witness is a thin, round-shouldered, and slumping figure.

Personality[]

The Witness is a glory hound, and sometimes takes unreasonable risks in showing off his power. He would betray anyone, even his own brother, to be elevated in Contarini's view. The Witness also views the world in a deeply religious light, and refers to others around him in terms of prophets, or demons.
